If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to finalize your Financial Plan for this school year. Remember you have three options:

1. Pay in Full. if you choose this option, your Student Statement will provide you with the amount due for Fall semester, or visit http://sis.corban.edu to access your Student Tuition Account and make payments electronically.
2. 2. Monthly Payment Plan. Application available at http://go.corban.edu/paymentplan

SEX IN THE POST-MODERN STORY
Sept. 21-23

Sarah C. Williams, DPhil (Oxford), has been invited to campus to speak on “Sex in the Post-Modern Story.” Williams will be speaking in chapel on Monday, September 21st and Wednesday, September 23rd. She will also be speaking Tuesday, September 22, at 7pm at Morning Star Church (4775 27^th Ave. SE). Williams offered a quick overview, saying, “I plan to trace the arc of shifting conceptions of sexuality, sexual identity and sexual practice from modernity to post-modernity. I then explore the question, ‘What are the implications of these shifts for society and for individuals?’” For more details click here.

The theme of Corban’s 2^nd Annual Leadership and Political Engagement Symposium is “Religious Freedom and the Rule of Law.” Our two distinguished speakers are Liu (Paul) Peng, founder of the Pu Shi Institute of Social Sciences (Beijing) and Rob Gifford, veteran China editor for The Economist (London) and author of the Random House book China Road (New York).

Welcome to the new school year!

Adding or Dropping a Class?
Please look at your class schedule in SIS to make sure that the classes you are attending are the same ones on your Fall semester schedule.  Friday, September 4^th is the last day that you can add a class to your Fall schedule and the last day to drop a class without a fee.  If you need to change your schedule you may drop the class yourself or see your adviser.  After September 5^th you will be allowed to withdraw from a course in the Registrar’s Office, but there will be a $10 drop fee.

Final High School and College Transcripts Due:

• Students, if you are a Freshman and have not sent in your final high school transcript, please put in your request now to have your transcript sent to the Registrar’s Office at Corban.
• If you have taken classes at another university or college and have not had your final transcripts sent to Corban.  Please contact the school’s registrar’s office and have your final official transcript mailed to the Registrar’s Office at Corban.

Graduating this year?
If you did not apply to graduate last April, it is not too late.  Pick up a graduation application in the Registrar’s office and submit your paperwork before December 1, 2015.

Meal Plan Information

Friday, September 4th (the close of registration) is also the last day to make meal plan changes!

Matilda Verlee Pearson made her appearance on July 27, 2015, at 5:42 PM. She weighed 6 lbs. 9 oz. and measured 19.5 inches long. Congratulations to Ben and Nicole on their sweet blessing!

As we prepare for a new school year, we encourage you to begin reflecting on this year’s theme: “Made New.” Our verse for this theme is 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come.”

Together as a community, we will explore the concept of redemption and newness through Christ and what that means in our daily Christian life.

Dr. Matt Lucas explained the theme this way: “We long for redemption; we desire to shed off our burdens and old skin and become new. Our culture’s offer of newness is an ever-receding and fleeting ideal of beauty and youth. Unfortunately, when we come to faith in Christ, we are susceptible to trading one pursuit of newness for another: the siren song of legalism tempts us to be made new by trusting in a list of rules or our own attempts at perfection. But true newness is an act of redeeming creation. God makes us new through his Son as we grow in his likeness.”

NEW EMPLOYEES

Corban is pleased to welcome the following faculty and staff members to the University community:

“It is my pleasure to introduce Leslie Herrmann to the Corban community.  Leslie joins Corban on July 7^th as the Dean of Christian Formation and Engagement, a position that has been created in order to provide leadership and create synergy between three important  Corban programs: Chapel, Reach, and Student Programs.  Leslie will supervise Chapel directly, and will provide supervisory support to Brittany Croft as Reach Coordinator and to Ben Pearson as Director of Student Programs.  Leslie came to know the Lord as a college student through Campus Crusade for Christ and has been dedicated to Christian higher education and discipleship ever since.  Most recently, Leslie has been teaching spiritual formation at William Jessup University as an adjunct; her other professional experiences include a combination of academic and administrative roles at other Christian higher educational institutions, so she brings necessary academic and administrative skills to this new role.  Leslie obtained her undergraduate degree from Cal. State Poly; she also earned a Masters in Theological Studies and a Th.M. from Regent College in Vancouver Canada.  Leslie is a creative thinker, a collaborative leader, and is someone I am very excited for you to get to know! – Brenda Roth, Vice President for Student Life

SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS

During the month of June, we’ve had some young future Warriors on campus! Warrior Summer Sports Camps taught young athletes about teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun while they built foundational skills in their sport. Camps were held for baseball and girls’ basketball. Corban also hosted a Timbers Youth Soccer Camp, with professional soccer players sharing their skills with kids from ages 5-13 at Warrior Field.

1. Congrats to Kade Crossland on being named the CCC Men’s Golfer of the Year! Warriors men took second overall as a team, while the Corban women finished in fourth place at the CCC Championships.

3. Track & Field Athletes compete at the CCC Multi-Event Championships on Thursday and Friday, while the remainder of the team will compete at the Mt. Hood Invite on Friday!

The Chamber Orchestra will perform pieces from musical masterworks from centuries past, while the Concert Band will perform contemporary dances and song. The Chamber Orchestra and Concert Band will perform musical masterworks from centuries past, as well as contemporary favorites. The program will include composers from Europe, South and Central America, and the United States.

CORBAN ATHLETICS

Men’s Golf: Kade Crossland captured the individual title for the Warrior men at the NCU Invite, leading the team to a third-place finish.

Women’s Golf: Brooke Spencer won the individual title for the Warrior women at the NCU Invite, leading the team to a third-place finish.

GOLF: The Corban University golf teams travel north to the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course next Monday and Tuesday for the CCC Championships, looking to earn a berth to the NAIA Championships.

Softball: Corban hosts Northwest University on Friday at 2pm and then Concordia University on Saturday at 11 a.m. Saturday is also Senior Day, so be sure to come out to Warrior Field and support the Warriors!

Baseball: The Warriors head north to Canada this weekend to take on the University of British Columbia in a four-game series.

Track and Field: The Corban track and field teams compete at the Oregon Relay Meet on Saturday at Hayward Field as well as at the Lewis & Clark Invite on Saturday.

CATHY DOWNS: CORBAN’S #1 FAN

Many of you know that Cathy will be retiring at the end of April after 12 years of service in Student Life.  Unarguably the friendliest, most engaging and winsome member of the Student Life team, Cathy’s presence will be missed by all.  Please join the Corban community in recognizing Cathy for her service by joining us in the second floor of the student center (coffee shop) on Tuesday, April 14^th, from 2-3pm for remarks (at 2:05) and light refreshments.

FINAL EXAM ARRANGEMENTS

Finals week is coming up April 27-30. Students are required to take their finals at the scheduled times. In no case should a student plan to leave campus prior to the end of his/her last examination. Finals may only be rescheduled for the following reasons: 1) Two exams are scheduled during same hour, 2) Four or more exams are scheduled on same day, 3) A student has a documented disability, or 4) A student has a documented emergency – student illness, or death in the family.

Any exams that need to be rescheduled for any reason must be approved by the registrar through a rescheduling request form. There is a $25 fee for each rescheduled exam. Certain procedures must be followed in order to re-schedule. Procedures are found inside.corban.edu, on the registrar’s page, under forms-and-policies. Arrangements should be made at least one week prior to finals week to reschedule any finals. The Final Exam Schedule is found online on the Registrar’s page.

We will once again be having a dance on the last day of Ballroom class (Wednesday April 22nd at noon in the gym). THere will be instruction and short lessons in Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep and Lindy during this time for anyone who is interested. THUMBPRINTS: A CORBAN ARTS SHOWCASE

Come and join the celebration of Corban artists, including poets, singers, actors, and writers. Doors open at 6:00. Enjoy refreshments and an art tutorial given by Museum without Walls leadership.

The program starts at 6:45 with presentations from Stinky Bagels poetry, playwriting class, and Hilltop Harmony. We’ll top off the whole evening with a swing dancing lesson!

GRADUATION REHEARSAL/CEREMONY:

Graduation rehearsal will be Saturday, May 2nd at 12:15 p.m. in the Salem Armory Auditorium. All students who are participating in graduation need to be in their cap and gown and in their assigned seat in the auditorium at that time.

An e-mail will be sent one week prior to the event with your assigned seat/walking order.

Rehearsal will last approximately 1/2 hour.  *Food is not available to purchase onsite, so please plan accordingly.

This is a ticketed event and doors will open for guests at 1:00 p.m. and the Graduation ceremony will begin at 2:00.

The Health Science department is pleased to announce the third annual Corban Science Symposium wiLL be held this Thursday, April 9th in the Psalm Center, from 9-3 PM. Come support our students by hearing about their research in exercise science, health science and science education. Students will be presenting on a variety of topics in poster and oral formats. Student oral presentations are scheduled for 9, 11 and 1 PM and poster presentations will be held at 10 and 12. The symposium is open to all those interested and people are welcome to stop by for any portion of the meeting.

• Serving a full 40 hours
• uploading your one-page reflection paper through the appropriate link on the Reach page of Converge

A Reach project is due one year from the date you began serving. However, if you are a graduating senior, all of your Reach work will be due the first Friday in April of the year you graduate (or the first Friday in December for December grads.

MASTERS IN COUNSELING PROGRAM NEEDS VOLUNTEER CLIENTS!

If you would be willing to volunteer to come talk about yourself and your life on tape for 45-50 minutes, you can help the counseling students continue to develop their counseling skills. You can come once or schedule several appointments. Talk about anything from indecision about your major, roommate issues, school stress, or anything else you would like to address.
Please remember that these are beginning counseling students. If you think you may have a more serious clinical problem then you should contact the counseling center on campus instead of volunteering with us.
This is a valuable learning experience for the students. We use these taped sessions to give clinical feedback to the counseling students and the tapes are deleted as soon as the student counselor presents the tape in supervision. This process makes them better counselors and prepares them to go out into agencies in the fall.
If you are interested please respond by emailing Mary Aguilera. In your response please give me the times you are available Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. (Tues. 9 a.m.-4 p.m.), and if you would prefer to talk to a male or a female student counselor.
