Where: The Psalm Performing Arts Center
Why: Connect with some great people, find a place to serve and, complete a Reach project this semester!

Come to the Psalm Center at the regular chapel time, sit in the upper-balcony area until the morning is introduced and prayed over… Then let the mingling ensue! Coffee and pastries will be served.


BIBLE LANDS STUDY TOUR
MAY 2016

Have you heard about our May 2016 Bible Lands Study Tour? Dr. Tim Anderson and Dr. Greg Trull are so excited to return to the Holy Land. We would love for you to join us! You can learn more at our ISRAEL TOUR INFORMATION MEETING in the EMITTE CENTER at 5:00 PM TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 22. Don’t miss it!

Let us tell you a little about where we are going. We’ll travel to southern Israel where we will experience places like the Dead Sea, Masada, and Qumran.  In that area we will have camel ride into the desert like Abraham for an overnight with Bedouins. We will then move to northern Israel and Galilee. Highlights will include Capernaum, Caesarea on the Sea and ancient Dan. We will also share worship together as part of a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Our tour will climax in Jerusalem, the heart of the Holy Land. History will surround us as we walk in the steps of David, Nehemiah and Christ. Our last day, we will retrace the final ministry, sacrifice and resurrection of Christ. We’ll move from His healing of the lame at the Pool of Bethesda, to the prayer in Gethsemane and on to Calvary and the Open Tomb. Unforgettable. These are just a few of the amazing places we will enjoy together. Cost:                $2095 + Airfare
Dates:              May 6-20
Payment         $250 tour deposit due with your registration (reserves your spot)
Schedule         November 6.

Where: Your awesome dorm room!
When: November 8th-9th, 2015
Why: This is a chance to mentor a prospective student, share your own Corban journey, inspire higher education, win some cash, introduce campus culture, and eat pancakes at midnight… just to name a few!

The host application is in progress, so stay tuned for more details!


THE CORBANATOR

Do you have a love/hate relationship with commas, semi-colons and apostrophes? Do your professors often note errors on your assignments? Do you know why “me” is NOT a bad word? When someone mentions grammar, do you automatically cringe at the term? If you could say yes to any of the above, the Corbanator may be just the thing you need. The Corbanator is a four-hour workshop that will help you with some of the basics of the English language, and you can earn one free credit by taking part in the workshop.

If you are interested…
1) Sign up in the Registrar’s Office for EN 081.
2) Join the workshop every Thursday in October from 5-6 p.m.
3) Email Ellen Kersey (ekersey@corban.edu) with any particular requests you have for the workshop activities. And email her if you have any questions about the Corbanator.
4) Where — the room number will be announced later.

THE MAILROOM

As many of you have already experienced, the Mailroom began (9-14-15)  a new ID policy. Don’t worry it’s not to make your life miserable, really. It’s actually designed to make your mailroom experience easier (yours and my student workers) and to ensure we are doing our job and instilling good habits on your end….you should be carrying your ID with you while on campus at all times. I appreciate and thank all of you who are cooperating and understanding of our new policy. Please remember we won’t release any mail/packages unless you have your ID with you, even if we know you.

On another note, the winner of our first Mailroom contest was Heather Halfman.

The contest was to guess how many packages for students were delivered the first week of school without going over. There were a total of 1822! Heather came the closest without going over, 1729. Congratulations Heather!


ATHLETICS

CCC XC Preview Meet: Hosted on campus at Corban for the first time in 13 years! 5pm women’s race, 6pm men’s race! Be there to support the Warriors!

VBALL: Corban hosts Walla Walla University in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center on Saturday night at 8:30pm! Warriors have won two-straight CCC contests.

Next week you will be receiving your first Monthly Student Tuition Statement.

If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to finalize your Financial Plan for this school year. Remember you have three options:

  1. Pay in Full. if you choose this option, your Student Statement will provide you with the amount due for Fall semester, or visit http://sis.corban.edu to access your Student Tuition Account and make payments electronically.
  2. 2. Monthly Payment Plan. Application available at http://go.corban.edu/paymentplan
  3. 3. Pay with additional Loans. More information available at https://inside.corban.edu/financial-aid, or contact the Financial Aid Office: (503) 375-7006 or financialaid@corban.edu.

Tuition accounts not on a Payment Plan, covered in loans or paid in full for the semester,  incur a monthly late fee of 1.5% of the outstanding balance.

SEX IN THE POST-MODERN STORY

Sarah Williams

Sarah C. Williams, DPhil (Oxford), has been invited to campus to speak on “Sex in the Post-Modern Story.” Williams will be speaking in chapel on Monday, September 21st and Wednesday, September 23rd. She will also be speaking Tuesday, September 22, at 7pm at Morning Star Church (4775 27th Ave. SE). Williams offered a quick overview, saying, “I plan to trace the arc of shifting conceptions of sexuality, sexual identity and sexual practice from modernity to post-modernity. I then explore the question, ‘What are the implications of these shifts for society and for individuals?’” For more details click here.

China Symposium

The theme of Corban’s 2nd Annual Leadership and Political Engagement Symposium is “Religious Freedom and the Rule of Law.” Our two distinguished speakers are Liu (Paul) Peng, founder of the Pu Shi Institute of Social Sciences (Beijing) and Rob Gifford, veteran China editor for The Economist (London) and author of the Random House book China Road (New York).

Don’t miss these three VIP events. Students are encouraged to RSVP for Thursday evening’s event, which will feature both speakers, a lively Q&A, and light refreshments.

Welcome to the new school year!

Adding or Dropping a Class?
Please look at your class schedule in SIS to make sure that the classes you are attending are the same ones on your Fall semester schedule.  Friday, September 4th is the last day that you can add a class to your Fall schedule and the last day to drop a class without a fee.  If you need to change your schedule you may drop the class yourself or see your adviser.  After September 5th you will be allowed to withdraw from a course in the Registrar’s Office, but there will be a $10 drop fee.
