“Change Your Brain, Change Your Life—Before 25” Kickoff Event

Wed., Sept. 18, 2013, 4 – 6 p.m., Psalm Center

World-renowned physician, psychiatrist, and brain expert Daniel Amen M.D., and his son-in-law, Corban’s own Jesse Payne, Ed.D., will be kicking off the national pre-launch tour for Dr. Payne’s new book, “Change Your Brain Change Your Life—Before 25” (due to be released July 2014).

The event will be videotaped and portions will be shown across the U.S. Join the hundreds already signed up to attend. Registration isn’t required. Admission is FREE!

Westrek: Come Adventure With Us!

Saturday, September 21st – Triangulation Peak & Boca Cave
Join us for an epic hike to the top of the rocky Triangulation Peak with close up views of Mt. Jefferson! We will also be taking a side trail and exploring Boca Cave with its majestic opening outlining Mt. Jefferson.

Cost: $4 (the same as a trip to Dutch Bros)

Campus Prayer Walk

Corban’s choirs, bands and orchestra will lead the worship music for the 10:15 a.m. worship service on Sunday, September 15th.  We hope to see some of you there! Take an early Sunday morning drive & join us for worship!

The CORBANATOR is returning in October.

This fun workshop will cover those little things that cause you trouble: colons and semi-colons, adjectives and adverbs, commas and quotation marks. Sign up in the registrar’s office for En 081. The course is pass/fail and will meet in AC3327 Thursday evenings from 5-6 p.m. on Oct. 3, 10, 17, and 24.

ISRAEL Study Tour Info Meeting

Join Drs. Anderson and Trull on Wednesday September 18th at 6:00 pm in the Manna Conference Room to hear more about the upcoming tour to the Holy Land. We leave the Monday after graduation for a 10-day tour to visit amazing Biblical sites in Israel. If you want to find out more about how you can share this incredible experience with us, join us next Wednesday evening!

Are You Attending The Right Classes?

Students, have you looked at your fall class schedule in SIS recently?  Please check and see if your class schedule matches the classes you have been attending.  If you need to drop any classes, please stop by the Registrar’s Office and pick up a course change card.  The cost to drop classes is $10 per class. You have until Friday, November 8th to drop classes from your fall semester schedule.

Chiropractor On Campus

Dr. Michels will be on campus NEXT Wednesday, September 18, from 2:30-4:00 pm in the training room. Cost is $10 and is open to all Corban students, staff, and immediate family. If you would like to make an appointment please call 503-589-8193 or email twalther@corban.edu.

Remember to have ALL posters stamped by the Student Life Office (located on the 2nd floor of Schimmel) before hanging your poster. All posters without the stamp will be removed.

VIDEOGRAPHER NEEDED FOR ATHLETICS: The Department of Athletics is looking for a videographer to film all home games during the soccer and basketball seasons beginning September 20th. We pay $10.00 per game. If interested, please contact Mark Colachico  to set-up a meeting and training session.

Ministry Opportunities

Welcome the 5 newest Corban students arriving TODAY!

Our five international students from Papua, Indonesia are scheduled to arrive in Portland around 8:00pm this evening and should arrive on campus by 10:00 pm. No doubt they will be exhausted by travels.

While each international student will have an American student mentor assigned to them, every effort you can make as fellow students to provide a welcoming atmosphere for them will be a blessing and support to them and our community. Please take the time to say hello and introduce yourself when you start to see them walking around campus this weekend and when you see them in class.

NAME THE WARRIOR MASCOT CONTEST:

Oregon State has Benny the Beaver, Oregon has Puddles, what is the name of the Warrior mascot? No idea. Here is your chance to “Name the Warrior Mascot” by sending your entry to Greg Eide, Director of Athletics, via email (geide@corban.edu) by Friday, September 20th, for a chance to win a Nike shopping spree. The winner will be selected by the Department of Athletics and then that name will be submitted to the President’s Cabinet for approval. If the name is approved then the winner will received a $100 credit that can be used to purchase Nike gear through the Athletics Department. Be creative and win a prize!

Two Volleyball Games Within Driving Distance This Weekend!

Tonight at Concordia University in Portland, the Corban Warriors take on Concordia. The game is at 7:00 p.m. GO WARRIORS!

Tomorrow night at Warner Pacific, the Warriors will play at 7:00 p.m. as well! Be there…and be LOUD!!!

Poetry Workshop September 9th

Oregon Poet Laureate Paulann Petersen will lead a poetry workshop, free and open to the public, from 3 to 5 pm on Monday, September 9th, at Corban University, Academic Center Room 4424.

Writing Lab offered 3 nights a week!

Come to the Writing Lab (AC 3301) for assistance with grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and editing. Half-hour sessions are available on either Tuesday (6-8pm), Wednesday (4-6pm) or Thursday (6-8pm). Sign up beforehand by stopping by the room or emailing Daren Milionis at dmilionis@corban.edu.

Friday, today, will be the last day you will be able to charge your student account for books.

Adding & Dropping a Class:

Today, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH IS THE LAST DAY TO ADD A CLASS.  It is also the last day to drop a class without a fee. Please see your advisor to make these changes.  If you haven’t checked your class schedule since the start of school, please do so in SIS.  Make sure the classes you have been attending are the ones on your schedule.  After 9/6 you will be able to drop classes through the Registrar’s Office, but there will be a $10 fee per class.

INAUGURATION:

Saturday, October 5th we will be celebrating the inauguration of our new President Sheldon C. Nord.  We are looking for student volunteers to serve as ushers/greeters at the ceremony.

You would need to be available from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 5th. If you are interested in serving at this event please contact Sandy Clouser at sclouser@corban.edu.

Need assistance on the weekend? Call (503) 877-4206 and reach a Residence Life staff member between the hours of 5pm (Friday) and 8am (Monday). We’re happy to help you get back in your room, provide some band aids and minor first aid, or sit down and listen if you are having a difficult time.
