Our newest global initiative involves NWCCU accreditation approval of International Teachers College (ITC), a program at our Indonesia partner university Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH).
The purpose of ITC is to educate Christian teachers recruited from all over Asia to proclaim Jesus Christ through high quality Christian education throughout Asia. Currently, 5 countries are represented in ITC—and 16 of our students are from Nepal.
As you can imagine, this weekend’s massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake has been a shock for our ITC Nepalese students. Please pray as they wait to hear from their families and friends back home. The students are devastated at the possible loss.
Here is an update from the UPH Student Life team who met with the ITC students on Sunday afternoon:
We have just met with the ITC students, and they are feeling very sad and desperate. Three of them have lost their homes, and all of them say their families are OK but afraid to go into buildings. They have no electricity or food. The students were very emotional as expected. Rebecca and I read scripture and talked about hope and trust in our Lord, the Lord of all creation and life. We prayed and Rebecca hugged all the girls. It’s a challenging time for many of them who did not sleep much last night trying to gather as much information as they could.
This also just came one of the ITC faculty members:
Kamal’s uncle’s wife was the only casualty among immediate family members of our students. She was not a believer. Many other students lost everything but family members are all safe.
Please continue pray for God’s mercy and care. The Nepalese families lived very humble lives and several have lost everything. Some are still waiting to hear from family about the impact of their homes.
Thank you for your prayerful support of our Corban University ITC Nepalese students.
Appreciatively,
Janine
