The main focus of the trip is on the history, art, literature, architecture, and culture than have spawned from the Protestant Reformation and has affected the course of Great Britain up to the modern day.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Junior&nbsp;Carly&nbsp;Eilers said,&nbsp;\u201c<\/span>It opened my eyes to fact\u202fthat Great Britain, particularly England, holds its university students to a\u202fhigh standard of learning, especially in schools\u202fsuch as Oxford.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.corban.edu\/global\/2017\/05\/10\/fountains-and-liturgies-olivia-wall-shares-her-study-abroad-experience-in-oxford\/\">Explore the Fountains and Liturgies of Oxford with Olivia Wall<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3109\" title=\"leaf graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.corban.edu\/global\/files\/2017\/09\/IMG_9384.png?resize=250%2C333\" alt=\"leaf graphic\" width=\"250\" height=\"333\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">For many students it is an eye-opening experience in the way a country and community&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">operates<\/span><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">&nbsp;differently from our own.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">You don&#8217;t have to learn a language!&nbsp;Also, the Queen is there. What other country has a queen who rocks yellow so well?\u201d&nbsp;Sophomore Charis Dressel said. Many of this trip&#8217;s&nbsp;14 students were first timers in foreign lands. With Britain being&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">a&nbsp;country<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">&nbsp;whose&nbsp;first language is English it is easier to assimilate and communicate across the cultural divisions.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">As with many college age students who&nbsp;endeavor&nbsp;to leave behind the world they know, even for a short time, these experiences can truly impact a student as a person.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">\u201cI want to go live there now. If my career ever allowed me to live in Oxford, I&#8217;d be a thousand percent for it,\u201d&nbsp;Dressel said. Students can even see ways in which they&#8217;d like to see their home country&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">improve<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Eilers said,&nbsp;&#8220;<\/span>I wouldn&#8217;t be mad if the state\u202finstalled an\u202funderground train station throughout Oregon.&nbsp;Just saying.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3109\" title=\"leaf graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/blogs.corban.edu\/global\/files\/2017\/09\/IMG_8643.png?resize=250%2C333\" alt=\"leaf graphic\" width=\"250\" height=\"333\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">This tour also helps students in their academics and career. Most enroll in a 3-credit class in the spring prior to the trip and are able to earn half the credit in class and the other half on the trip itself. <u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">Both Drs. Baker and Tennant pointed out that <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.corban.edu\/global\/2017\/05\/24\/unpacking-your-study-abroad-experience\/\">traveling abroad increases a student&#8217;s&nbsp;marketability<\/a>, making them more employable.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">&#8220;It&nbsp;gave us an advantage\u202fwhen it\u202fcame to understanding the places we were traveling and the role that culture\u202fplayed in what we see in Great Britain today,\u201d&nbsp;Eilers said.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">The unique aspect of this academic tour is its&nbsp;emphasis&nbsp;on faith and history. Students get to experience many different kinds of Christian heritage in baptisms, the Anglican influences at Oxford, Presbyterian churches in Edinburgh and much more.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">\u201cI have a growing appreciation for those who came before me.&nbsp;Our faith is not our own. So many have gone before us and paved&nbsp;the way for truth to be known,&#8221; Dressel said.&nbsp;&#8220;It was a humbling experience. A reminder to keep my eyes heaven bound.&#8221;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3109\" title=\"leaf graphic\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.corban.edu\/global\/files\/2017\/09\/IMG_9092.png?resize=250%2C333\" alt=\"leaf graphic\" width=\"250\" height=\"333\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">Tennant recalls a time on their&nbsp;first&nbsp;trip where they took part in a church service that invited them to communion and everyone drank from the same cup and ate from the same loaf of bread. It opened up the worldview of many Western Evangelicals. And oftentimes there is confusion between Anglican traditions and Catholic practices. Baker and Tennant get to help sort these differences out.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;font-size: 11pt\">&#8220;It is amazing for students to suddenly realize &#8216;Oh, God is this big&#8217;,&#8221; said Tennant.
