Gina Ochsner Workshop Reminder!

Gina Ochsner, Corban’s writer in residence, and assistant english professor, hosts a writing workshops series at the Barn.

From Gina:

Writing is an act of faith. Writers not only believe, but also rely upon words availing themselves when needed. However, what can a writer do when the words don’t arrive? In these two sessions, we will address a phenomenon nearly every writer encounters: the need to write while simultaneously feeling unable to do so.  We will talk about where story, essay and poetry ideas come from, how to “jump-start” writing when ideas seem absent, and how to develop those ideas.  We’ll be trying out different techniques so don’t be surprised if you leave these sessions with several story, essay or poetry starts in hand.  These sessions are designed for writers high-school aged and older.  No previous writing experience is needed—just curiosity.  Each of the sessions is designed as a distinct “unit” of thought and activity.  That is to say, if a participant cannot attend the first session, they can still attend the second session without missing a beat.

 Dates and Time:

April 22nd,10:00-1:00pm

April 29st ,10:00-1:00pm

Cost:

$50.00 per session or $75.00 for both

Registration:

Now open online at the Barn website (inside.corban.edu/student-life/the-barn) or at the Barn during Open Table: Wednesday-Friday, 2:00-10:00 and Saturday, 1:00- 8:00.barn_logo (002)

Music House

Hello Corban Community!

This weekend we will be salvaging materials from the Music House. The items that we recover from the house will be up for auction! Here are the details:

The items will be posted on the Facebook page “Corban Sales.” You do not need to be a member of the page to bid, but you may request to join the page if you would like a notification every time an item is added. We will post a picture of each item with a minimum bid. To place a bid on an item, comment on the picture with your bid amount. BIDS MUST BE MADE IN WHOLE DOLLAR INCREMENTS. The last person to comment at the end of the auction gets to claim the item.

The dates are still TO BE DETERMINED so keep an eye on your inbox for more details. We do know we will hold the auction for multiple days on the Facebook page, so you will have time to assess the items and battle for your treasures! Also, we will have all the items on display in the Barn for a day and all are welcome to come check out the loot on that day (again, that detail will be included in the following email).

When the auction is complete, a follow up email will be sent to delineate payment and pick up information. All payments will be made online, via a link in the follow up email. Once the purchase is confirmed by the Barn staff, the item(s) will be available for pick up at the Barn – time and date for pick-up to be determined.

If you have any questions, you may contact Emma Felzien at efelzien@corban.edu or Brenda Roth at broth@corban.edu

The official email with all details will be sent in the next few days! Hopefully this gives you a taste of what’s to come.

The Barn

Music House

As you may know, the Music House is coming down soon. The Barn team will be cleaning out the space and collecting salvaged materials, some of which will be available via a silent auction the week of May 16th. All proceeds will benefit The Barn. Information about the silent auction will be made available sometime next week.

In addition to the silent auction for salvaged materials from WITHIN the music house, there is also an opportunity for those who would like to have access to the plants/shrubs immediately ADJACENT to the house. This winner-take-all auction will allow the highest bidder to take as many plants/shrubs as they desire, but everything must be removed by Saturday, May 14th.  On Sunday, May 15th anything left in the ground is free for the taking and no landscape materials may be removed after May 16th because the house will be demolished and the site unsafe.

Bottom line, if you would like to be involved in bidding for the landscaping materials, let Brenda Roth know ASAP.  Only those who express interest at this point will be provided the additional information needed to participate.
